 Who We Are

We are a community hub space for bringing people together, creating resources and helping members of the community.

 The Peel 2SLGBTQ+ Collaborative Members

Peel Has accomplished new levels of success, addressing social justice issues going in depth into layers of intersectionality. However LGBTQ+ communities are still suffering from major issues like homophobia, transphobia, invisibility, lack of belonging, and mental distress as a result of social isolation and many other factors that can negatively impact one’s sense of wellbeing. The LGBTQ+ Collaborative is a table of nine organizations working in the community service. The main goal of this initial phase was to increase coordination and leadership in Peel’s health and human services sectors related to lesbians, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ+) community needs and interests.

Peel HIV/AIDS Network

  • Peel Gender Journeys: Sessions to introduce trans and non binary individuals to resources and knowledge during their journey in reclaiming their gender.
  • Pride in Volunteering: Volunteer MBC and Peel HIV/AIDS Network formed a partnership to create an increased understanding of the unique barriers and challenges faced by current and prospective LGBTQ+ volunteers. The partnership is the result of the approval of the grant application for the for a Partnership Grants Program and will develop appropriate strategies to increase a sense of inclusion for the LGBTQ+ communities within the non profit organizations.

  • LGBTQ 101 Workshops for LGBTQ inclusion in the non-profit sector
  • Facilitation and Co-ordination of the national Totally Outright program.
  • QTBIPOC-community outreach
  • MSM Outreach

Associated Youth Services of Peel

Youth Beyond Barriers (YBB) Program provides confidential services for youth who identify within LGBTTI QQ2S communities.

  • The YBB Program provides group support, individual counselling, and confidential access to relevant social media.  Additionally, YBB offers consultations and trainings to the larger community.
  • The youth group and counselling supports use an Anti-Racist, LGBTTIQQ2S-affirming framework.  Our groups offer connection to community, support and referrals to mental health services, if needed. Topics covered include current events related to queer and trans communities, relationships, and embodiment of sexualities and genders.
  • The individual counselling allows youth to explore their identities and lived experiences, and uncover ways of moving, operating, and thinking that are helpful in their lives. The counselling component is community-based and utilizes a strengths-based, client centred approach.
  • Additionally, a monthly group for parents/caregivers of youth who identify as trans/gender fluid is offered in the community.
  • The Youth Beyond Barriers Program provides a series of educational trainings and helps organize and support community events that raise awareness around queer and trans issues.
  • Through the workshops, participants can expect to start thinking about how sexual orientation and gender identity interact with other parts of identity, to explore their own roles in oppressive systems, and think about how to create Anti-Racist, LGBTTQQI2S- affirming spaces. These workshops are designed as interactive, youth-focused, and are developed from a strength-based perspective.
